What a Low P/E Tells You
P/E is how many years of current profit the price pays for.
The Value Signal
A low P/E means the market expects little growth, or doubts the earnings will last. When it is wrong, value stocks rerate upward. Buying cheap earnings is the oldest strategy in investing, from Graham to Buffett.
How It Is Computed
For each constituent we read the trailing P/E from Yahoo Finance: the latest price over the sum of the last four quarters of earnings per share. The screen keeps values above zero and under 15. A loss-making company has no P/E and never matches.
What It Is Not
A low P/E can be a value trap. One-off gains inflate earnings, cyclical profits peak right before they fall, and a shrinking business deserves a low multiple. The filter shows what the price pays for past profit, not future profit.
